I was experimenting recently the couple Joomla/SMF to run a complete website with a forum, while there are many forums solutions for Joomla, I have found that SMF is an excellent alternative complete, powerful and free.

In reality I have found many websites opting for SMF as a forum solution for their Joomla website, you can notice it in the number of download of the SMF bridge for Joomla which is the higher one compared to other CMS such e107, Mambo, Xoops, iGamingCMS.

Using Joomla in the Classroom

For a few years, I’ve been using Joomla (previously Mambo) to run an “interactive” website for students in AP English, humanities, and creative writing classes at my school: WSHSBeyond.com. This provided some “social” web work before the term caught on. Now, with additional extensions, the site provides a pretty excellent (though not perfect) social learning environment.

In case there are others searching for a way to move their students online, I thought I’d give an overview of what’s great and not-so-great about using Joomla as a solution.

Interview with iJoomla Founder Merav KnafoiJoomla Magazine is an excellent extension that has vastly improved the CMS experience for publishers using Joomla. The component has undergone a great deal of development since its first releases, and has been given a big thumbs-up by critics as well us developers and publishers. PHP Magazine Network contacted Merav Knafo, iJoomla's founder, for an interview about the iJoomla experience.

1- Merav, why do publishers need iJoomla Magazine?

Because Joomla may be great for blogs, but not everyone wants a site that looks like a blog! When I started with Joomla, I tried to use core Joomla and was always disappointed with the result. It looked okay but it just didn't give me the slick look I was after. That's why I've created iJoomla Magazine. It allows you to make your site appear really professional and clean.
